METT 3 (Micro Expression Training Tool)
When people deliberately try to conceal their emotions, or
unconsciously repress their emotions, a very brief facial
expression often occurs. This is invisible to nearly everyone who
has not trained with METT as it usually occurs for only 1/15 to
1/25 of a second. Training with METT enables you to better spot
truth and lies, put people at ease, understand others more deeply
and be more successful in many contexts including sales,
leadership, management, coaching and customer service.
Research with schizophrenics has shown that those who have used
METT are better able to recognize how others are feeling.
Micro expressions tell you that the emotion is concealed. But they
do not tell you how or why it was concealed. They
may be the result of a conscious, deliberate choice in which the
person knows how he/she is feeling but does not want anyone else to
know. Or, as a result of repression, in which the person does not
know how he/she is feeling and has been blocked from their
consciousness. You will need to determine if the concealment is
deliberate or unconscious, as they look the same. Your knowledge of
the situation in which they occur should help you figure this out,
or you may need to ask questions to find out.
It is important to stress though that a micro expression does
NOT always mean that a person is lying. As PAul Ekman says in
Telling Lies (2009), "…even when someone shows a micro or squelched
expression, that is not sufficient to be certain the person is
lying. Almost any emotion leaked by these expressions [micros] can
be felt by an innocent trying to conceal having those feelings". P

While most of us miss the valuable signs of concealed emotions,
the Micro Expression Training Tool (METT) will enable you - in
about an hour - to spot most of them. The facial expressions of
anger, fear, sadness, disgust, contempt, surprise and happiness are
universal - the same for all people.
METT includes a Pre-Test to establish how many micro expressions
you can spot without training, followed by Training, Practice, and
a Post-Test so you can see how much you have improved.
METT offers practice and training opportunities and is recommended
for those in security, defence, education, sales, and the medical
professions where "reading" emotions in others is paramount to
performance. A certificate of completion is available for those who
receive 80%. You can stay logged on this tool to see if you can hit
95% to receive the Expert level certification.
NEW!! Advanced and side profile tools are now availble for enhancing and reinforcing your skills.
While nearly everyone improves from the pre to post test on first use, not everyone can reach the highest levels of accuracy straight away due to differences in their ability to grab visual information quickly (visual acuity). Also we know that these skills decay over time.
For these reasons the unique feature of the tools bought
here is that we leave you registered with the tool for continued
practice and testing - even after the certification offered on
METT.
Because people differ in their visual acuity, some may benefit
from progressing onto the more comprehensive
workshops we organise. These can increase your ability
to read emotions in others - whether that be to help build
constructive relationships or to determine whether others are being
truthful or deceptive towards us. These are the only
workshops designed and approved by Dr Paul Ekman.

SETT 3 (Subtle Expression Training Tool)
Despite efforts to conceal any sign of emotion that is
felt-leakage may occur in very small hard to recognize fragments of
expression. These tiny changes also can occur when an emotion is
just beginning, often before the person knows they are about to act
emotionally. SETT can train people to "see" these important
signals.
Subtle expressions appear in very small movements, typically in
just one region of the face: the brows, eyelids, cheeks, nose,
lips, or chin. Subtle expressions occur when an emotion is first
beginning.
The person showing a subtle expression might not yet know he or
she is feeling an emotion, but you will know it. These are the
first signs of an emotion that later develops into a larger, more
obvious expression. And, subtle expressions occur when the emotion
felt is very slight.
These expressions may also occur when someone is trying to
suppress any sign of how they are feeling. When this happens the
subtle expression provides leakage of the felt emotion.
Subtle expressions also occur when the emotion felt is slight, and
does not increase over time.
The subtle expressions for each of the seven universal emotions
are presented in this online tool created by Dr Paul Ekman: anger,
fear, sadness, disgust, happiness, surprise, and contempt. (The
only one of those words that may be unfamiliar is contempt, which
is a feeling of moral superiority). This tool has also been
scientifically validated by Dr Ekman.
As with METT, the unique feature of SETT is that we
leave you registered with the tool for continued practice and
testing.
Paul Ekman's book, Emotions Revealed, explains how to best use the
information you will now be able to pick up from subtle facial
expressions in the business world, family life and friendship. You
can also attend powerful, Paul Ekman approved
workshops to develop your knowledge and skills in
reading emotions and truth/lies in others through a wider range of
non-verbal and verbal communication channels.
